September 2017 – Extra Income Update

I’ve decided to keep track of my extra income and use it to fuel further growth in my Dividend Portfolio! This is the first post of it’s kind. A summary of all my Extra Income for this month. Don’t hesitate to let me know what you think about it!

Deposit your budget for investment

Let’s see what the incomes were from the 2 major categories:

Cash Back:

  • MBNA Rewards World Elite Mastercard: $125.00
  • Ebates.ca: $0.00

First of all, the MBNA mastercard came with a sign-up bonus of 10,000 points, which equals to $100. No need to worry about my spending! I’ve taken advantage of my new passion for cash back to optimize a few things. I’ve centralized all of my usual monthly bills such as electric and phone/internet so that they would automatically be paid via CC. This will enable me to squeeze out a few extra $ every month.

As for Ebates.ca, this was my first month as well. I changed something fundamental about the way my wife and I spend. We now purchase many items online (instead of on the side while doing the groceries), such as shampoo, toilet paper, facial tissue, garbage bags, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, etc. To my great surprise – even without the cash back from Ebates – this sometimes saves me up to $2-3 per item! Sometimes, amazon adds discount coupons as well. As they say, every dollar counts! I did get a sign-up bonus of $5.00 but won’t be actually receiving any of it until a pre-specified date (see below). So not too much excitement for this first month. (No Graph, for obvious reasons!)

Social Media Income:

  • Youtube (Adsense) Revenue: $170.29
  • Amazon.com Affiliate Links: $0.00
  • Blog (Adwords) Revenue: $0.00

My Youtube revenue has been creeping up slowly over the last few months and is now seemingly peaking before an anticipated decline. The reason I say this is that – because of my wedding/honeymoon – I haven’t had<taken the time to post a video in about a month. I expect the ripples will be felt during the next update. No worries! I’ll try to get back into the groove in the upcoming weeks. I have to admit, though, taking some time off from constant grinding is a relief.

In terms of Affiliate Links, I did accumulate some revenue but none was actually paid out to me. The payment threshold is $100, with this month I’m currently up to around $35 USD. I did actually receive revenues in the past that were lower than $100, these were from Amazon.CA and not .com. I no longer use this account.

This comes as no surprise, but I did not benefit from any income from the blog! (no graph, again, obviously!).

I appreciate all of you who take the time to read my updates and follow along my slow and steady journey to financial freedom! All of this extra income ($295.29) is going directly into my RRSP and will serve as a catalyst for reaching my yearly dividend goals.

See what stocks I might buy with it here!

Cheers 🙂

  1. That is a pretty good amount of income. Even if a lot of it was because the sign up bonus. But credit card rewards are really nice as long as you can not pay interest so are basically getting the cash back for free. That is an impressive amount of revenue from your youtube channel too. Not bad at all. Keep up the good work!
