September 2017 – Dividend Update

September was pretty busy. I managed to follow my August plan which was to add to my position in Dream Global REIT (DRG.UN) in order to enable my DRIP cycles to earn a new share every single month. I also initiated a new position in Dollorama Inc (DOL) right before it shot up by double digits! For once, the timing was right. Read about some of my September activity here. Furthermore, Savaria Corp (SIS) boosted their dividend by 38.5% in September and switched to a monthly distribution! You can read about it here.

So, Everyone knows that quarter months are exciting for dividend investors. I was personally very anxious to see what September had in store for me – and rightfully so – as I felt a record month was ahead… Let’s jump right into it and take a look at the dividends I’ve received in September 2017 from both of my investing accounts:

  • Financial 15 (FTN): $170.32
  • Savaria Corp (SIS): $35.36
  • Boralex Inc (BLX): $35.70
  • Park Lawn Corp (PLC): $19.95
  • Enbridge Income Fund Holdings (ENF): $10.09

  • Financial 15 (FTN): $439.95
  • Savaria Corp (SIS): $4.55
  • Dream Global REIT (DRG.UN): $6.27

Total: $722.19 (NEW RECORD!)

Last year, in September 2016, I had received a total of $564.29, which represents a YoY increase of 28% (see graph).

I’m up to $5,772.78 for the YEAR (see graph). So, I have $2,227.22 left to go if I want to reach my 2017 goal of $8,000. In other words, that’s $742.40 per month until the end-of-year. I expect September will be my best month of the year so it’s unlikely that I will actually reach my 2017 goal. But I’m not going down without a fight, I’ll try to contribute more side income and maximize my RRSP!

1- The newly acquired shares in Dream Global REIT (DRG.UN), Dollorama Inc (DOL) will pay dividends in the upcoming months. I plan to add more to Dream Global REIT (DRG.UN), Park Lawn Corp (PLC), or Savaria Corp (SIS) depending on which seems like the best bargain on its price at the moment of purchase.

2- I will try to maximize my RRSP (although at this point it is unlikely to be enough to reach my end-of-year goal as there’s only room left for about $1.5k). One strategy that will help me reach this is by re-investing my Extra Income, which was $295.29 for September. Check it out.

3- I’m always on the look for more opportunities and interesting dividend growth stocks in order to increase my diversity! I’m currently looking at Pharmacie Jean Coutu Inc (PJC), Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc (ATD), Metro Inc (MRU) and Saputo Inc (SAP). Check out my analysis of these here! . Surely, an acquisition will come early in October.

Let’s see your numbers peeps!

  1. Great result this month DI. It’s awesome to get a new record and have a monthly dividend payment from a stock – pretty uncommon in Oz where quarterly dividends is about as frequent as we get. Good luck with the final quarter of 2017!

  2. Great month! Congrats on your new record. You hit my entire year so far in one month haha. Still plenty of time to go this year to hit your goals. I am trying to finish maxing out my tax-sheltered accounts before the year ends too. Keep up the good work!

  3. DI, congrats on getting double digit increase from last year. I’m also like div daze in that you made more in one month than I am likely to make in a year. I’m glad I found your blog. Looking forward to seeing more great reports like this one. Hopefully we can both reach our goals by the end of the year.

  5. Wow, these numbers are impressive! Why did your numbers go up so heavily in 2017?
I wasn’t really interested in dividend investing…well, I think this changed. I will take a look at ‘Get Richt with Dividends’ next month. Is this a good book to start?

    • I just really put the pedal to the metal in terms of contributions. It’s funny you should pick that one, it’s the exact one that got me started! Check out the section on Great Books on the blog 🙂 Best of luck my friend

  6. Looks like a solid update for the month of September. We all love those end of quarter months. Keep those buys coming in and maybe you’ll make your 2017 goal. Just stay focused on those quality dividend payers. Thanks for sharing.
